Psychologists have suggested that all of us are either slightly claustrophobic or slightly agoraphobic, depending on whether, as children, we were more afraid of being abandoned, or afraid of being confined and dominated.

 

It's simplistic, but suddenly my somewhat severe claustrophobia makes a bit more sense.
